Markleeville Creek House is a custom victorian home located on a 1.5 +/- acre parcel in the heart of Markleeville, in Alpine County California. The parcel sits on the Markleeville Creek with approximately 500 feet of waterfront access for your fishing and swimming enjoyment right out of the back door.
Markleeville is the county seat of Alpine County, which is the smallest county population (1100 people) in California. Alpine County is an unspoiled “diamond in the rough” with 726 square miles of area crossing over the crest of the Sierra Nevada Mountains-- that ratio works out to only two people per square mile! The county is over 95% in government ownership and approximately one half of that being in US Forest Service Wilderness designated areas so the open spaces will stay open. The elevation of Markleeville is 5500 feet with mountain peaks to over 10,000 feet within sight of the town. The county is the headwaters source of 5 rivers in California.
We locals like to call Markleeville a town but in the rest of the world it would be a small village. Enjoy checking out books or bands at the local library which hosts a number of events throughout the year; stop in at the General Store for snacks, a bottle of wine, or fishing tackle; pop into a number of restaurants for lunch or dinner; or head to Grover’s Hot Springs right up the road for a relaxing soak after a long day of adventure.
Two major ski resorts are within easy driving distance of Markleeville: Kirkwood and Heavenly Valley; each resort offers outdoor recreation year round. The Lake Tahoe area is a 30-40 minute drive, and Reno, Nevada--and the Reno-Tahoe International Airport-- is only a 60 minute drive. Lake Tahoe and the Reno area offer some of the top resorts and entertainment in northern California/Nevada. Markleeville is an approximate 3.5 hour drive from the Bay Area and a 5 hour drive from Monterey.
